Self-Portrait Friday...

One of the biggest things to happen recently is the introduction of the kittens into my life. For me, they symbolize setting down roots and the creation of my own home. It's hard to describe this happiness, this contentment. I guess it stems from years of watching other people buy houses, have children, have pets... do the things that grownups do. People were taking responsibility and I was this strange shadow blowing around in the wind. Sure, I was invited to share in these experiences of others, but never was it really mine. I was living vicariously, always an outsider playing at house.

So, besides being cute, cuddly companions... Babette and Paulo are symbols of my own home, of being here.

That is really touching....I am a big pet lover and my home wouldn't be a home without my dogs drooling all over, begging me to throw the ball for them and thinking I'm the best thing on this planet! They let me know every day when I walk in the door from teaching. I think you will really enjoy them...They are precious!

Hey Andrew...I only know you from blog posts, and even that only a few months, but I know enough to see how loving you can be and little kittens are so sweet! I have my sweet Felix (orange tabby that has been in my house for 15ish years). He is "Uncle Felix" to my son, almost 9 yrs...perfect, sweet pet to the family. Congrats, Dad!

OMG She has your eyes!
Caring and nurturing for someone else is one of the best parts of being a grown-up. You'll have to take another picture of the wee one when he gets a little bigger.
I have four rescue cats. UGH

That is beautiful and makes me so happy for you. (I like cats in theory, but I am allergic).

What makes me most happy is your description of HOME. That makes me smile from ear to ear!
Enjoy the day, Andrew!

i SO love this portrait, andrew, and agree with everyone that it is very calm and peaceful. animals do that to us, don't they? especially when they are tired (i say this because i have a wild puppy). i don't know what i would be without a dog in my life, particularly now that i have raised the boys and they are out on their own.
thank you so very much for being a part of self portrait friday with me; i have enjoyed your portraits every single week.
sending love - xo

I keep coming back and looking at this picture -- it's got some surrealism going, esp. where the like white eyebrows of the kitty fan out over you eye. It's a really great shot!!!
