Halloween...

I would have written about this sooner, however, we've been working extra hard on the book and there hasn't been much time left over for me to update. To the left is a picture of Azalea dressed up like a Snow Princess Fairy.

Since Greg was out of town for a show in Pittsburgh and we've been on deadline, we really didn't get into the spirit of the holiday this year. It's surprising because Halloween is one of our favorite holidays.

After we handed out a bunch of candy, we decided to take our chances and try to do something celebratory for the holiday. We found a festival online that had activities for adults and ones for kids as well. So, we decided to go.

I used Mapquest to get the directions. It was a mistake. It took us over a narrow, winding road that snaked up and over a mountain in pitch-black darkness. In the shadows we saw glowing eyes and some strange, large brown creature feeding on the side of the road. We didn't get a very good look, as the creature was at the crook of a sharp turn in the road at the bottom of a steep incline. Needless to say, all of our hands were sweaty and clenched hard on whatever we could get a hold of. Both prayers and curses were on our tongues that ride.

When we finally got there, we were a little disappointed. The turn out was a little lackluster and it was COLD. None of us really bothered to bring our heavy coats. Instead we wrapped ourselves up with the blankets in the back of the van and tightened our scarves. Azalea was a little upset that she couldn't play with any kids or go trick-or-treating. (She later said, "I don't know how come everyone gets to come to our house to trick or treat and I don't get to go trick or treating.") Oh well, there's always next year I guess.

It's probably for the best that we didn't have lots of fun and stay out late on Halloween. We have far too much to do before Cynthia heads out to Colorado. Perhaps she'll post some sneak-peek photos of the forth-coming projects.

Azalea looks beautiful! Poor girl, she sounded so disgusted not getting to go trick or treating.

Mapquest has sent me to the entirely wrong city. I never use it anymore in favor of Google maps.

Azalea is incredably always very photogenic isnt she?! What a beautiful child she looks like Cynthia with the finishings of Greg! One year Middleton Place had a spooky Halloween party a scavenger hunt all thru the gardens. But for only those who worked there alot of ppl showed up. What a wonderful night. Sorry about your mis adventure but always fodder for a chuckle. LOL

Azalea is pretty dang cute. It took a long time to get ready, so I think that was part of the issue of us not getting to do anything for her.

Next year we'll know to start earlier.

The funny thing about Halloween night was that after we left, we left a bowl out with candy for trick-or-treaters to take what they wanted. We expected it to be empty when we got back. Eventually, when we did get back, we found that the bowl wasn't completely empty! There were three pieces left, one for each of us.
Only in Asheville will they be polite enough not to pour the entire bowl in their bag.
