Self-Portrait Friday...

These pre-dawn hours are sometimes my favorite. There are days when I luxuriate in the mist that has yet to burn off and is still cottony thick. I revel in the stillness. Everything seems emerald. The only sounds are the early morning bird songs, the purr of hummingbird wings, and the sound of my own heart. Everything seems possible. The day has not truly begun, but sings of what may come – what may be.

I stand in the quiet that is not quiet and whisper, "Welcome."

It almost looks like a movie setting. I love mornings like this, where the only sounds are birds chirping. What a great way to start the day!

Oh yes it's almost magical. I don't sleep that well at night so these early mornings are rare, but this week I did get a couple of similar opportunities. The Sparrows are on their third(?) "batch" of babies and the youngins' are pretty hungry,it appears, at 5 AM. Mom and Dad both seem to be involved and it was a great joy to be able to observe and sip my tea with no one else around. It was my own private theatre :)

If you ever back in State College, there is a Deer Research Center near the airport. Sometimes I would drive over there in the early morning and the deer would come out from the wooded area and look at you with curiosity to see if you were going to give you a treat. Even if it wasn't pre dawn it felt like it in the dim deep forested area.

Your writing is wonderfully evocative. What a beautiful way to capture a moment of pure potential.
