Even though the show is quickly approaching and I have much work to do before then, I couldn't help but make a piece for this week's theme: Polar. All I could think about were Eskimos. So I did another super quick illustration featuring one. The background was built up with collage and then the figure was painted in the faux-fresco style and then glued in front. I then painted in some elements such as the arm and the spear.
I may not get to sleep tonight, but at least I got my Illustration Friday submission posted and done.

very nice Andrew. I always like your layering technique. I love his warm face against all the cool tones.
Way to go man. The layers and colors here are fantastic, and the spontanaiety here is a good thing. Good luck on the show.
Looks great! The technique is very unique and very 'you'! Don't fall asleep standing up somewhere!
I was an hour late today for work. I went home to drop off my portfolio after working all night in the studio and on my Illustration Friday piece. I fell asleep on the train, and ended up riding the entire length of the L line. Good times. Luckily I didn't get fired.
Yes, I like the texture too. Great strong image. Good luck with the upcoming show!
loove your story, haha... this is a very beautiful piece...
...and Canarsie is such a sizzling hot spot, who wouldn't want to end up there?!
You remind me of my mom taking me into manhatten, I guess it was the L train, and I would love to be lulled to sleep by the sounds and the motion of the train. Then she would buy me big chocolate cookies in the shape of dutch boys and girls...one of my favorite memories.
I'm glad you were ON the train when you fell asleep, though.
This is great!
I like the texture on the parka.
Oh, nice one, love the texture, love the layering. Haven't finished mine yet...was at a class all day.
Canarsie? not cool yet...
I'm throughly enjoying this piece. Great job!
I really like this! Sometimes working fast generates a real authentic response. I think this shows that. I love the expressiveness of this piece. Good luck on the show!
did it occur to you that the eskimo might be a metaphore for a lonely individual trying to survive in an unfriendly deserted frozen environment?
great work, good luck for the show
Thanks everyone for your kind words! I feel very encouraged.
Xtian, you're right in more than one way.
Great piece Andrew! Good to know this time you fell asleep in the train. Anyway, good luck with the show!

Who comes?
Is it the hound of death approaching?
Away!
Or I will harness you to my team.
...Aivilik Eskimo
seems to fit...
Its a nice piece Andrew, with very strong elements.. I like the warmth versus the cool, the isolation, the foreward gaze, the fighting posture....The singular humanity versus the multitude of cold cubes. (eyes twinkling here)... ok ok... Good job!
