Illustration Friday: Green...

After I almost died last night, the spark returned. Better days, I think, have returned! Here is my submission for this week's theme: Green. As you can probably guess, I've still been doing extensive reading on the Middle Ages and it is surfacing in my Illustration Friday images.

I started off by building up a background with collage. Then I painted and drew the figure and incorporated the two elements together. One abstract. One figurative. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for your comment, I had just realized that I had the wrong address and am going to change it.
love your green Joan of Arc. I grew up in Brooklyn - as someone once said to me "if you are from Brooklyn, you are cool for life". Kinda nice,
Mim

You always put so much thought and work into your entries. I miss being young and enthused and infused with everything. Oh...but I still am, even at this age!
I'm so glad everything turned out okay for you after falling into the tracks. Keep on keepin' on Andrew. Life is good.(As are your illustrations!)

Nice work, I very much like the way you built the background with greens and different shapes. I like her hair too. This is a woman to be on the look out for, strong, impressive and on a mission.
Glad you are back from the dark!

Excellent imagery - but your accidental attempt to kill yourself sounds rather worrying - I hope you manage to stay awake next time you are out late!

Very strong piece! Excellent color!

Our whole family can doze off anywhere, no matter how uncomfortable, but Andrew is the most skilled at sleeping at odd moments!

Neil Gaiman wil be in NY apr.26-27 check his website. Maybe you can get an illustrated version of Stardust signed!

Andrew Thornton said...

For who, I wonder would this copy of Stardust be for? ;-)

That's really cool. I'll invite him to come to my show. He probably won't, but it'd be funny if he did.

Did you write to him and tell him about that one time we went to meet see him at Malaprops?

Andrew Thornton said...

I sometimes wonder if dad has ever seen a movie in its entire state? I don't think I've ever seen him not fall asleep at least once during any movie we've sat through.

Andrew Thornton said...

Oh and to answer Grace and Andrea and a couple of others... if tired enough, I can sleep anywhere under any conditions. I cannot count how many times I've fallen asleep in the shower or on the train. I'll often times nap in my studio, with just a jacket thrown over my face on a hard wooden floor. And sometimes I can sleep for days and days. I also don't think that I've ever sat through one lecture and stayed awake without nodding off at least once. I've been to hundreds of lectures at this point. Maybe thousands if you consider how long I've been in school.

very strong piece. Reminds me of the strength we must pull together to fight our demons.

(just the use of the word 'manhattan' in your sky line photos brought me a great sadness)

I see a goat and I think a eyeball in the lower left corner, and that's just the easy stuff. I've been looking and looking and this is an intrigueing piece.
That face, as though she's in a dream, and can't even blink. Beautiful work!
