It's a busy time of year. I wish I was one of those energetic people who plows through lists of things to do mechanically and methodically. I'm not one of those people... especially not in winter. Even with copious amounts of caffeine, I am much slower to cross things off my list. My brain is wired in a way that meanders and wanders. It does not help that it gets darker earlier. I feel the overwhelming urge to build a fort out of blankets and pillows and climb in with my two furry cats and hibernate. This, of course, is not possible. Too much to do and not enough time to do it in. I'll soon be leaving for Tucson and nothing is ready yet.
I suppose I should just buckle down, draw the curtains and get to work. I imagine that if I keep chipping away at all the things I've slated for myself to do... eventually... little bits will start getting done.

Try not to put too much pressure on yourself - things will get done when they get done. I find the darkness hard as well - I hate having to get up in the dark especially - it just feels instinctively wrong! Beautiful picture though. There are certainly no deer on my street!
Same here with the birds. The little birds sit in the bushes of my yard, waiting for food.
Don't stress yourself! This IS a slow time and should not be filled with stress, anger and pressure to get things done. My family and me had to learn the hard way a few years ago and since that we avoid putting too much pressure on us in this time of the year. If you feel like cuddling up with your cats and a load of blanket, do it!
Your winter photos are so beautiful -I especially love this one!
I really enjoyed your last several posts (the reflective ones) and really relate to "the hibernation effect". I have found myself restructuring my days to maximize the light - and trying to listen to my body more. Not always successful with the latter - but working on it.
I'm sure you're feel a sense or rejuvenation once you arrive in Tuscon - just in time for the new year!

Andrew, you have a creative soul and spirit. That's why you wander and wonder. I know you have to get to work, but let your muse work gently with you while you do.
Everything will get done in time...it just may take a wee bit longer.
I, too, feel sleepy this time of year...send me off to the bed with piles of blankets, pillows and some wonderful books. Aaaahh...to just snuggle in for a long winter sounds lovely!
Bead Happy!

That's a great photo Andrew!
Just take a deep breath and remember that you will get it all done. And when it's over, build that blanket fort.
I am like you - easily distracted by the goings on around me. A detailed to-do list keeps me on track and as each task is completed, it gets checked off and it's on to the next. Mind, you this is the 387th "master" list I've made but I've finally found one that works!! Although, I don't have the lovely view out my window that you have... :)
Andrew - building a blanket fort with kitties sound like so much fun! Maybe you should take an hour and do that! You might just get re-energized!!!! I really wish I was one of those people too - you are not alone!
This photo feels so alien to me... it's been 79 degrees for the past few days here in Tucson, though it's finally overcast and cool today!
I tell my kids this when they are overwhelmed with homework. Do the task that you can get done the quickest. Then you can take one thing off your list and have a feeling of accomplishment. That will spur you on.
Season's Greetings
I can just hear the snow!
I love winter. I love winter sitting inside with a nice cup of something warm and looking out at my desert mountains. Your photos are a nice change from that. It is as though I have a picture window on to your world. Thank you.
Your picture reminded me of the Deer Research Center at State College. The deer come out of the dim forest and peer at you. You can feed them or not. I always just preferred to watch them.

This reminds me of one of your sisters pendants - she should make a tiny deer! My small studio is not insulated so it's closed off in the winter - all the rest of the year I love to look out the window and see guinea hen, turkeys, deer rabbits etc - I almost always sit motionless and hold my breathe so I don't scare them away!
