Quick Dinner...

Cynthia and I went out to do a little bit of last minute Christmas shopping. I don't really celebrate Christmas anymore, but A.C. Moore had a fantastic "bad weather" coupon that could not be refused. I got Max and Azalea some small gifts and I got myself a pasta machine for polymer clay that I've been coveting for awhile now. While at the craft store, we picked up the launch issue of a new Canadian magazine called, Metal Clay Artist Magazine. It looks like it has a lot of potential.

We also went to Barnes and Noble to pick up some more gifts. It was needless to say, nightmarish. The traffic was supremely intense and the parking lot overflowing. We found what we needed and headed back as quickly as possible.

We were still later in coming back than we thought we'd be. So, Greg and I whipped up a quick dinner. I roasted the Russian Banana fingerling potatoes and battered, double-dredged, and deep fried the tilapia. The potatoes, although flavored with garlic and rosemary, were still sweet and buttery. The fish was crunchy on the outside, moist and flakey on the inside, and surprisingly flavorful. Greg roasted the asparagus and made tartar sauce from scratch. It was a good dinner.

that looks delicious!
can you give me that tartar recipe? Joe and I have been wanting to make our own...but assume it is more than just mayo and relish, right?

Andrew I always love your food posts - this looks extra yummy - I want to run out and buy tilapia and asparagus but after Christmas - nothing will get me on the road and into a store today, not even food ;(

Hey Lorelei,

I think Greg used Miracle Whip and food processed sweet pickles, but back in the restaurant we used to make aioli (fancy name for homemade mayonnaise) all the time. I recommend checking out 'wichcraft: Craft a Sandwich into a Meal – And a Meal into a Sandwich by my former bosses. There are loads of condiment recipes for every occasion.

Hey Jean,

I know what you mean. Going out last night was something crazy. A trip that would normally take an hour took three and half. Greg is going out to get the fixings for our holiday feasting. We got our lunch supplies last night, which I'm very excited about today... but I'll post pictures.

Hey Erin,

Thanks for your kind words! I am enjoying my time here. It's challenging, because I'm not really used to this much family time... but I am having fun.

Russian Banana fingerling potatos? I've never heard of them, but love tiny potatos, and fish, so this photo is full of powerful 'food cues' for me. *sigh*
I thought I knew something about cooking, but alas have never heard of 'double-dredging'. *is ashamed of ignorance*

There aren't words for how stoked I am that you will be doing something with polymer clay. I already snagged my pasta machine and my job gave me a really nice toaster oven to dedicate to clay. So please do post some more about this when the spirit moves you!
