Treasure...

The first of the blackberries have ripened and a handful of tart berries were plucked. You should have seen my hands (and mouth) afterwards, stained sweetly with splotches of blue and purple. We have several patches on the property, as well as spots along the roads thick with their brambles. Later in the season, I have plans for blackberry jams and jellies, sauces, cakes, cobblers and clafoutis.

Those look delicious.

We're just starting to get blackberries from our vine too. I've already made a blackberry & mango smoothie.

What is a clafoutis?

Clafoutis is a French dessert, where traditionally cherries are placed in a buttered dish and then a light, eggy batter is poured over top and baked. It's served warm and dusted with powdered sugar. I guess with blackberries it's technically a "flaugnarde", but that's if you're really being technical.

oh yum! owr blackberries are just now blooming, no berries till mid August here, love them, and all the home made goodies made from them, there is nothing like hot home made bread with fresh home made blackberry jam, brings back all kinds of childhood memories.....I never minded a few scratches while picking the berries cause I knew my mom would be making something so yummy out of them.....
