A little known fact is that there's a small courtyard attached to our shop. I have pots filled with flowers and herbs. There are bright red chairs and a yellow coffee canisters hanging from wires on the wrought iron fence. The upcycled coffee cans are filled with more plants and I have morning glory vines climbing along the fence. I would like to think that we've made a little bit of a sanctuary. It's a perfect place to sit back with a book, beading project, or a cold beverage on a hot day.
I have this wacky idea of creating a shrine in the courtyard. I have this vision of a mosaic-encrusted altar reminiscent of Niki de Saint Phalle. The shrine will be non-domininational, but will honor creativity. Some might say it's a modern day tribute to the Muses. I owe so much of my life to the Artistic Spirit. It has shaped and influenced the way I live my life and has created such a dramatic impact. I want to share that and create a small place – one that might be passed by and easily unnoticed – that recognizes that spark within each of us and pays homage to it.

this has to be one of the most stunning pictures of a morning glory that I have ever seen. I have that same beautiful color here. It climbs along the wisteria vines, entwines itself between the links of the garden swing chains, and winds along the mulch path, reaching out to grace old shelving that teeters above the potting bench. I remember the when I found the rogue seeds, several years back. I was with a good friend in Gettysburg, PA. We were taking a short cut through the alleyway and came to a chain linked fence, covered with these awesome specimens. Of course, we stopped and filled empty coffee cups with the seeds. Made me smile to remember. xo
When I was in New Orleans, I started to wonder down a small alley because of a cute sign pointing to a café. When I got to the end, it was the most beautiful little courtyard, fountain and fairy lights in the trees. Great little breakfast café, remember it to this day. Good luck on yours. Great idea!
I love your courtyard, Andrew! And was so honored to be a guest there last week. Was it really just a week ago?
I love the idea of an altar. Do you plan to do your own mosaic? I know an amazing mosaic artist if you need one.
