Working...

I wrote and re-wrote a blog post about my thoughts on business, and the ideas of success and failure. I deleted those words. Ultimately, they mean very little. I can talk about my ideologies and weave elaborate sentences to bolster my opinions... but without action behind those words, they might as well not exist at all. So I deleted them and went back to work.

I do hope that through the opening of Allegory Gallery, I am able to prove my convictions of living a joyful creative life, supporting and inspiring others, and building and fortifying community. If the Passages of Time see fit to remember me, I would like to be remembered as an artist first and as someone intent on seeing. I aim, as most creative people do, to survive off of the work I make and to embrace my tenants fully. If there is "success" it comes from staying true to those words, the words underlined with example and hard work. "Success" is a byproduct... not the motivation. Until then... I will continue working.

Indeed! Well said Andrew. As for the deleted part, I know that so very well. I spend an inordinate amount of time in my head, 'figuring everything out', getting lost in it, writing about it, inspecting it from every possible angle and pretty much where I am right now ...

Doing is far superior to pontificating.

So true, Andrew. The work must "stand" on its own merit and will generate the longevity and results you desire. Any rewards as a result are just icing on that cake. Paradoxically, as you point out, working for "sucess" is a sure path to eventual failure.

That would be "success". Doh!

Just do the "work" you love. Make all feel welcome in your new endeavor as you have in this blog. No "self doubt" needed here - just continue to be the best person you are and IT will come.

You have an eloquence and introspective thoughtfulness that I am so enamored of and that I find rare in this world. I do hope that you can make it work. Because that is to give hope to those of us in other far flung corners of this world who would like to be able to do something in the same vein. I am rooting for you!
Enjoy the day!

Loved your post, totally relate. I just had a revelation on success and failure. I had been going through a time of pondering. Thinking in the worlds ways, I would be seen as a failure. (meaning not making big money, having lots of "stuff") But success is not measured by these things. It will be measured by how we treat others, how well we used the talents we have been given, and what we give back to those with less.

Allegory Gallery will be a soul fulfilling adventure for all!

my friend you ARE a success already. I know few other people as true to themselves and full of love as you. All these pesky business things will work out,in the right way and in the right time. Stay focused on your passion and joy and you will never fail.
