Last Days...

I can feel my time here in Asheville slipping away from me, like water in a bucket with holes in the bottom. Moments are draining away faster and faster. So much to do and so little time left.

The other day we went to the farmer's market. Asheville has one of the best in my opinion. One of the nice things about it is that you can drive around and stop. This is particularly handy when it is raining, like it was when we went.

We found loads of delicious fresh produce. Way too much produce and we're left scrambling to do something with it all before it turns. Above are some of the juicy blackberries we picked up for only $20 for a flat of eight pints.

I love peaches and Asheville has some of the most decadently sticky sweet, run down your chin, slurp it up good peaches. We got a basket of course – the big basket.

We also picked up bags of sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, and a bag of ginger gold apples.

The farmer's market is full of surprises. You never know what you're going to get. For instance, we were on a quest for green beans, but instead found these beautiful pale pink and light yellow green beans. They're just as tasty and are brightly colored! I know a girl who will like them!

The tomatoes here are simply amazing. They have several different varieties and come in all shapes and colors. Whether they are green heirloom or red roma, they are such to be tasty!

We bought so many tomatoes that I had to start roasting them. I just cut them up, tossed them in garlic olive oil, kosher salt, pepper and set them to bake in the oven for an hour or so while I peeled peaches.

Asheville isn't just home to a great farmer's market, but a supremely talented jewelry designer named Kathy Van Kleeck. She's a gem of a person! We have been trying to arrange a meeting forever, and we were finally able to get together. Yesterday, after I passed my driver's license test, we met up with Kathy at Filo and had a delightful time! She's such a sweet soul. Above is a picture of Kathy Van Kleeck and Cynthia. Make sure to visit Kathy's Etsy Site.

One of the other projects that I've been working on is experimenting more with copper clay. I love it. There are some things that I'm going to have to refine and adapt from my usual metal clay working techniques, but I'm still a smitten kitten with the end product and the easy firing time. Above is a picture of my yield!

Thanks everyone! I am nervous to be on the road and there's still much practice that needs to be done before I feel completely at ease on the road. I did drive across two and a half states on my way back to New York!
