The Ride Home...

Today was another long day.  It seems as though I've been having a lot of those lately.  It doesn't help that I haven't been able to sleep well.  I've got too much work to do and too much on my mind to really be able to relax enough to sleep well at night.

Even though I haven't been able to sleep well in bed, I do have a nasty habit of falling asleep while standing up.  This has gotten me into some trouble in the past.  For instance, I fell asleep standing up next to the subway tracks and fell in.  Luckily I got out in time and didn't break my teeth or any bones.  I've also fallen asleep in the shower, which is quite painful when your hip connects with the tiling.  Ouch!

Tonight on my way home, I caught a very busy train.  Due to delays or service work on the tracks, there were fewer trains.  Which meant that the ones that were running were just packed!  When it gets that crazy, I close my eyes and pretend as though I'm not there.  The gentle rocking of the train and the warmth of so many people crowded in one space made my eyelids droop with tiredness.  If my eyes weren't already closed, I might have closed them again!

I kept dosing off and almost falling over, which led me to the bump into people.  It wasn't on purpose.  It just kept happening.  I kept bumping into this little Asian lady.  After the fifth time, I profusely apologized.  She looked at me and said, "It's okay.  I'm tired too."

hi andrew

Hey Tony! I'm going to start working on trying to build time in to take a nap during the day, but I think once I get some of the major problems out of the way... I'll be able to sleep better. I go through periods where I sleep like a rock. And others where I can't sleep at all. When I've got a lot on my mind it's much more difficult, as I find that my sleep is more "shallow". My dreams merge with my thoughts and half constructed, convoluted wisps of ideas float in and out. Doesn't sound very intense, but when it's ideas about something burning or the need to expedite a long list of tickets or having to stop someone from burning their face while steaming milk.... it gets a little crazy at night. Oh well, I guess I just keep bumping into little Asian ladies on the way home until things get worked out.

The more motivated and creatively charged I am, the more difficult it is for me to sleep. This year has been awful--I've been making jewelry again for the first time in ages, and I have been working so hard on my online stuff, and it's made me lose a lot of sleep.

But I can't be too sad--it means that I'm actually getting things done! Hope you can catch up on sleep soon. *hugs*

Hey Lauren!

When I'm making things and not sleeping, I am at my best. I can go days without sleep and am never tired. Sounds strange. But when I'm working on other things and not making work, it's like someone has zapped all the strength out of me. Hopefully I will get back in the swing of things and start making things again.

Hugs from another nontraditional sleeper. Couple of weeks ago I woke up face down in the dishwashing suds. Then there's falling down while standing in the living room where I stopped to see something on the TV...falling off the toilet and crashing into the clothes hamper...and of course, falling asleep anytime I'm sitting or even slowing down...Yet, at night, I can't seem to stay in bed for more than an hour, hour and a half. Fortunately, I'm still able to create jewelry and other artwork. My doctor gives me Provigil, which sometimes helps me stay awake, for at least part of the day. (You can reach me, if you like, for support or info, through my Etsy shop, at http://heronmoon.etsy.com) Good luck! (*Hums lullaby*...) :D

I fall asleep in bed sitting straight up with my computer laptop in front of me. I used to sleep siting up on backless chairs in front of the roulette wheel in Atlantic City when we went there as young wild ones. hahahaha. wearing 80's hair and spiked heels.
