Mostly Metal Challenge...

The summer has been packed with creative challenges! Michelle Mach kindly hosted the Mostly Metal Challenge! She created design kits from pieces purchased from B'Sue Boutiques and put together three different types of categories: Antique Brass Romantic, Filigree Fun, and Gunmetal Love. My kit was of the Filigree Fun variety.

I've been really pressed for time with the preparations for the opening of Allegory Gallery, assembling the Design Team, and coordinating the Fundraiser, but I still wanted to participate and create a piece from the Kit I received in the mail. My mystery components included two gold-tone, brass wings. I decided to focus my energy on these pieces. I riveted the wings onto an abstract copper focal piece that I made and drilled holes in the tips of the wings to be hung from. (Yes, all the parts move!) I then added a copper-colered Swarovski crystal bead with a filigree cap from Ezel Findings. I then added the vintage German crystal and the different kinds of chain and a few Swarovski crystal wire-wrapped links. All of the Swarovski crystals came from Fusion Beads. A bronze toggle from Saki Silver, that has both the bronze and copper colors in it, ties the piece together. It's a fairly simple piece, but I like all the little details and mixtures of metals and the winged focal I created with the Mystery Components.
