Illustration Friday: Hide...

"From the world, she hid her heart - an organ of fire and feeling."

I wanted to try something a little different for this week's submission. I usually work extensively with collage. So, for the theme of "hide," I drifted away from it and work outside my comfort zone. I'm doing a lot of readings about the Middle Ages and I think that that came through with this illustration.

  2. Great job. It has a very collage feel to it--the contrast between the painted character and foreground with the black and white linnear background.

  5. Beautiful Andrew. I like the B&W backgound with the soft colors of the subject. The background looks like an old woodcut and the color is frescoe-ish. Nice juxtaposition.

  6. This is lovely. I really like the use of B&W because it makes it seem like she has a beautiful secret to share, if only she wasn't hiding! (and thanks for the comment too).

  8. You have captured the feeling of the Middle Ages very well especially due to the colors and the technique in the background. I like the broken wall with the world hiding behind it. And also the 'third' eye looking down on her.

    Very interessant work!
It recalls me "Tristan and Iseult".
I like the contrast between the two techniques.

Wow. It looks very three-dimentional, like you sculpted it. I love the juxtuposition/transition between foreground being in modern color and background looking like a black and white medieval woodcut with the half-way arch in between.
