I used to live in Brighton, England, and there is still a whole extensive system of Victorian sewer tunnels running beneath the city. They run tours of them once a year. I never was able to take one - the tours are popular and fill up quickly. Every now and then an English tv show will film there and you can get a glimpse of the tunnels that way...Melissa J. I'm particularly fond of old houses and secret passage ways and hidden staircases.

At one of the restaurants I worked at, there was a secret room that opened up onto a whole entire other room. When I was off the clock and was allowed, I would take a flash light and climb around the ancient and rusty boiler and try to see if I could see any treasure. I didn't find any treasure, but I did find a peep hole into the store next door. Creepy. We would joke around that there was a ghost, as it was an old speak-easy that at one point had secret escape hatches to let the patrons out when they got raided. My old house in Scotland had a stairwell that went underneath the stairs but we never knew where it led and Ron didnt want to open up all the plaster and create a mess. And upstairs two fireplaces were boarded up in the two bedrooms as well. So many times I wanted him to open up the walls! A very valuable fireplace could of been behind them. And in the kitchen too..Boarded up. Money flows so freely in the US you wouldnt think about NOT opening up things like that here. Despite a good job as an Engineer in the UK we were very poor! So it was never done! Many times now I want to move back!
xxxAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18212476952833501895noreply@blogger.com
